Operation NEPTUNE 80 D-Day Rally to Ouistreham and Caen 1-9 June 2024
The FOA is proud to combine in a rally with the Fareham Sailing and Motor Boat Club on our NEPTUNE 80 Rally to Ouistreham and Caen 1-9 June 2024
This is the 3rd such rally I have organised, the previous two being D Day 70 in June 2014 and D Day 75 in 2019. If successful again and if there is the will in Normandy it will be the intention to run another rally in 2029.
On the 6th of June 1944 what was to be the largest amphibious invasion started in the dark, with the minesweepers ensuring the entrance channels were clear for the big guns and the landing craft. It didnt end World War 2, but it went a very long way to start the end of the war.
The 80th anniversary of Operation OVERLORD, the Allied Invasion of Normandy 6 June 1944, stands to be possibly the last major event of its kind due to the reducing numbers of veterans from the original operation. The naval part of Operation OVERLORD was titled OPERATION NEPTUNE, hence the name of this rally.
